SAMPAA VI - Manuscript Specifications

Sixth International Conference on Science and Management of Protected Areas

Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada May 21-26, 2007 (SAMPAA VI)

Conference participants are encouraged to submit manuscripts based on oral or posters presentations given at the conference. These must be received in both electronic form and "hard copy" by July 31, 2007. Manuscripts must not exceed 5,000 words, excluding references. Graphical material is acceptable, as outlined below.

 

1. Each manuscript should include a brief title (Capitalized), followed by the author’s name(s) current mailing address(es), telephone number(s), Fax number(s) and e-mail address(es). See the following example:

2. A summary, labelled as such, should appear prior to the introduction of the paper .

3. Manuscripts should be typed and double-spaced, with 1.5" (4cm) right hand margins, on good quality, white bond paper (8.5x 11" 21.5 x 28 cm).Headings should be bolded and appear with numerical designations. See the following example:

4. Citations should be in numerical order as they appear in the manuscript. Citations should be indicated in the text by numbers and should be listed in the literature cited section numerically, arranged by their first appearance in the text. See the following example:

Since islands have a high percentage of endemic species and subspecies, their protection ensures the conservation of processes and species that exists nowhere else in the world (1,2). Islands are breeding areas for seabirds, marine mammals and sea turtles (3), and.....

5. Metric measurements must be used with English units in brackets if required

6. If scientific names are used they should appear in italics and appear after the common name.

7. Contributors should send one hard copy of their manuscript and also a copy on a CD formatted for use on a PC compatible platform. This should be submitted as a Word, Word Perfect or ASCII file.

8. All non-essential stylistic formatting should be avoided as the format, style and layout will be done by the editor. Essential elements are upper and lower case lettering, punctuation, headings and paragraphing.

9. The font should be in Times New Roman 12.

10. Tables and Figures

i) Tables and figures (in either colour or black and white) must have a number and caption included in the text.

ii) Tables and figures should be submitted as a separate high-quality TIF or JPEG file. The intended position of the graphic can be indicated by its inclusion in the text in the appropriate place. The provision of a separate file will make editing much easier.

Review process and dates are as follows:

August 1, 2007 Associate Editors to meet and divide manuscripts into groups

September 15, 2007 Select referees (two to three per manuscript). Send out for Review

November 1, 2007 Referee comments deadline for return

December 1, 2007 Decision (Accept or Reject). Send back to Authors for revisions

January 15, 2008 Return manuscripts. Send to Susan Rolston for set-up and publishing
