Conference Format
SAMPAA VI will employ a variety of formats. Terrestrial and Marine
Symposia and other sessions will run simultaneously throughout the week, and
come together for selected plenary sessions.
Keynote Speakers: Internationally recognized speakers establish
the context for the week’s plenary sessions.
Oral Presentations: Oral presentations will be 12-minute in length (plus 3
minutes for questions) on specialized topics falling within identified
themes. These presentations form the primary content of the
conference and are based on abstracts received from interested
individuals. They will be presented in a series of concurrent sessions.
Poster Presentations: The findings and implications of specific research or
case studies will be on display for most of the conference and an
interactive “show and tell” session will be scheduled. Display space is
confined to app. 1.2 x 1.2 m.
Poster Gong Show: Posters will be on display during the conference. At the official poster session 7pm onTuesday May 22, we are organizing a "Gong Show" competition. This is an opportunity to advertise your research to the entire body of SAMPAA delegates, and to promote your poster. During the poster evening, authors' names will be drawn at random, and selected authors (you may decline) will be asked to make an oral presentation of their poster for ONE MINUTE. A live-feed video image of their poster will be projected on a screen for all delegates to view. After one minute, a gong will sound, and the projected poster will be turned off. Winners will be selected by popular vote and prizes will be awarded for the best promoted poster.
Workshops: Sessions on specific
topics of relevance to the conference will be scheduled as workshops to provide more interactive
opportunities for participation. Workshops may also be convened to
provide opportunities for activities such as meetings of working
groups, development of proposals, and specific topical discussion.
Contact the conference Executive Assistant (info@sampaa.org) prior to February 15, 2007 to make space
and promotion arrangements.
Exhibits: Space will be available for commercial and non-commercial
organizations to present capabilities, to display current products, and
to demonstrate technology to a unique gathering of participants.
Exhibitors will be charged a modest fee. Please request
exhibit space on the registration form or contact the conference
Executive Assistant at: info@sampaa.org
Events and Tours: Field trips will be
organized for participants and accompanying persons to enjoy and
experience, as well
several social events will be planned. Pre-and post-conference tours and
activities will be suggested and can be booked through the private
sector. More details will be included with your “confirmation of
registration.”
Proceedings: Refereed proceedings from both oral and posters presentations will be
available on CD and forwarded to fully registered
conference participants. As well proceedings will be posted on the SAMPAA website and Library and Archive Canada.
