Neil Munro
(Emeritus director)
Neil Munro was one of SAMPAA's founding Directors. Now retired, Neil was the Science Advisor for Parks Canada in the Atlantic Region, Director of Operations and of Planning Policy and Research, and an Adjunct Professor at Dalhousie University. His main professional interests are ecosystem monitoring, Marine Protected Areas and the use of science in decision-making. Neil was a recipient of the Patricia Roberts Pichette award as well as two Federal Provincial Parks Awards for encouraging the use of science in Parks. He was also the first Canadian director appointed to the George Wright Society, a consultant to the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas, and co-chair of the North Eastern Regional Air Quality Committee for a number of years. Neil enjoys hiking, canoeing and photography, and believes that protected areas are special and significant as places of aesthetic appreciation, personal enrichment and discovery, and for measuring one's physical acumen.
