The Science and Management of Protected Areas Association originated in 1989 when a small group of scientists and managers in Canada agreed there was a need to improve the quality and use of science in protected areas management.

The Science an Management of Protected Areas Association (SAMPAA) is a Canadian charitable organization devoted to enhancing the use of science in the management of protected areas.

Our main focus is the development of opportunities for the protected areas community (managers, researchers and ENGOs) to engage in dialogue about the management of protected areas.

The seventh SAMPAA conference will be held in 2011. Conference proceedings from SAMPAA VI will be available soon.

SAMPAA is currently in an exciting period of revitalization. As well, we are creating a new more dynamic web presence to serve the protected areas community.
